Roma will not appeal Mourinho or Tiago Pinto bans

Roma and Jose Mourinho have decided not to appeal the tactician’s two-match ban, so he will not be on the bench against Atalanta this weekend.

The club was hit hard by the Disciplinary Commission after the fiery 2-2 draw with Verona, which saw Mourinho sent off for making insulting gestures towards referee Luca Pairetto referencing his father’s role in the Calciopoli scandal of 2006.

Director Tiago Pinto and member of the coaching staff Nuno Santos were also suspended for the fracas that occurred after the final whistle in the tunnel, when they continued to hurl abuse at the referee.

The official report even stated Mourinho had to physically hold Tiago Pinto back, although the Portuguese director did later apologise.

Having read the report, Roma have now decided not to lodge an appeal against the various bans, despite Sky Sport Italia noting they contested some of the phrases that were attributed to them.

That means Mourinho will not be on the touchline for this weekend’s Serie A match against Atalanta.

He had already missed the 1-0 win away to Spezia, preferring to sit in the team bus rather than in the reserved spot for him in the stands.
