Chelsea have once again been linked with a move for Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana, with one journalist claiming he is right up Thomas Tuchel’s street.
The Foxes star, along with the likes of Villarreal’s Pau Torres and Wolves star Max Kilman, has been linked with a switch to Stamford Bridge this summer to bolster Tuchel’s defence.
The Blues are on the hunt for at least one new centre-back after Antonio Rudiger agreed a deal to join Real Madrid at the end of the season. The futures of free agents Andreas Christensen and Cesar Azpilicueta are also unclear.
And according to the Evening Standard, Fofana is very much on Chelsea‘s radar. That is despite the fact that he recently signed a contract extension until 2027.
Meanwhile, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano recently revealed that the Blues had sent scouts to watch Torres in action for Villarreal. Wolves ace Kilman is also a potential target, according to talkSPORT.
But it’s Fofana who is the better fit, according to the Daily Star’s Paul Brown.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Brown said: “They would probably all fit the system in different ways. Fofana is the most exciting one for me because he’s clearly got huge potential, is quick and he’s very comfortable on the ball, which I’m sure Chelsea like.”
Chelsea still waiting on takeover
The biggest issue for Chelsea, however, remains that owner Roman Abramovich is still facing sanctions due to Russia’s war with Ukraine.
But if a sale goes through before the summer, then the Blues are expected to feature in the market.
Fofana will not come cheap though. Indeed, Manchester United were told the 21-year-old would cost £80million when they made their own enquiries.
At this stage, it would appear that the cheaper options of Torres or Kilman are more suitable targets. Unless, of course, Leicester decide to cash in on Fofana to bolster their squad in other areas.
Rapid Fofana the perfect Thiago Silva foil
If Chelsea could get Fofana on board he would certainly give them pace alongside veteran star Thiago Silva.
The evergreen Brazilian signed a one-year contract extension with the club back in January. However, he needs mobile defenders around…
