Liverpool have been hit by the news Bayern Munich have entered the race to sign strike ace Karim Adeyemi from RB Salzburg.
Adeyemi is in hot demand ahead of the summer transfer window. Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund have been battling it out for his signature and it has just got more complicated. Bayern have joined the race and could be favourites to get a deal done.
The Bavarians dropped a clanger when allowing Adeyemi to slip through their fingers early in his career. He was once in the Bayern academy but then joined SpVgg Unterhaching where he continued his development.
Bayern ready to spend big
A move to Salzburg followed and the striker has gone on to flourish. So much so Bayern are now willing to pay big money to get him back.
Reports in Forbes claim that Bayern will meet the asking price and trump Liverpool and Dortmund. Salzburg want £38m and Dortmund have been trying to negotiate that figure down.
Liverpool are also said to be in talks with a view to getting him to Anfield. It was suggested they could take advantage of Dortmund’s reluctance to meet the asking price.
However their hopes have now been hit by Bayern according to Forbes. The Bundesliga powerhouse want a new striker as Robert Lewandowski’s future is in some doubt.
Adeyemi would not be expected to fill the Poland international’s boots straight away. But they finally see his potential and are ready to match the asking price.
The striker is starting to flourish and has bagged 20 goals in all competitions this season. Salzburg manager Matthias Jaissle recently described him as the “perfect striker” and rival coaches are starting to agree.
Bayern’s interest will come as a blow to Jurgen Klopp. The Reds were said to be “quietly confident” of landing their man but Bayern could throw a spanner in the works.
Liverpool still in the hunt
Liverpool will still fancy their chances of fighting off the competition but it is more complicated. It could come down to Adeyemi to decide whether he wants to play in the Bundesliga or Premier League.
