Liverpool lock horns with Man Utd after contract snub sees transfer of 40-goal striker Rory Wilson ramp up

Man Utd and Liverpool have converged in the transfer market with both clubs chasing the signature of Rangers wonderkid Rory Wilson, per a report.

Wilson, 16, is one of the hottest prospects Scottish football has produced in recent memory. The striker is on the books at Rangers and has already netted 40 goals this season in the club’s youth ranks.

According to the Daily Star, the reigning SPL champions are understandably keen to tie their teenage sensation down to his first professional contract.

However, Wilson is reportedly ‘set to reject’ that proposal. Instead, he wishes to follow in the footsteps of fellow Scot Billy Gilmour and sign his first pro deal south of the border in England.

What’s more, Wilson is described as having ‘let it be known he wants to leave Rangers’.

That has predictably put several of England’s leading clubs on high alert, including Man Utd and Liverpool.

That pair – along with Man City – have all been ‘keeping close tabs’ on Wilson’s situation in Glasgow.

Rory Wilson in high demand

Leeds Utd and Newcastle are also in the mix, though they might find it hard to beat out their more established Premier League rivals.

Man Utd and Man City reportedly had scouts in attendance when Wilson recently bagged a brace for Scotland’s Under-17s against the Czech Republic. The striker now has six goals in seven matches at that level.

Any side that firms up their interest in Wilson will have to pay a compensation figure of around £300,000.
