Dzeko: ‘Destiny brought me to Inter’

Edin Dzeko looks back over his life and career, admitting he could’ve joined Inter earlier and it was ‘destiny’ that brought him to San Siro.

The striker was practically a free transfer from Roma in the summer and has become the key figure in their attack, his form stronger than that of Lautaro Martinez or Alexis Sanchez.

He sat down with Inter TV to discuss his life and career, including growing up in war-torn Bosnia.

“The war started when I was six. They were difficult times, but the football was always there. It was my first love,” said Dzeko.

“In 1998 I was in Italy for a tournament and there were Italian kids in the hotel watching the UEFA Cup Final, they were Inter fans against Lazio.”

After a shock Bundesliga triumph with Wolfsburg, Dzeko moved on to Manchester City and another surprise victory in the Premier League under Roberto Mancini, with Mario Balotelli as his teammate.

“Bosnia reached our first and so far only World Cup, but we hope to play more. People always expect a great deal, especially from the more experienced players like myself and Miralem Pjanic.”

After Dzeko signed for Inter, the club released a picture showing the ‘Swan of Sarajevo’ with the blue and black ‘Biscione’ snake symbol of the Nerazzurri.

“Perhaps it was destiny that brought me to Inter. It could’ve happened earlier in my career, but I always say it’s never too late. We must give our all and achieve important things together.”
