Benfica striker Darwin Nunez has announced that he will change his agent amid speculation that Manchester United and Arsenal want to sign him.
The Uruguay international has reportedly become a sought-after target for a number of clubs following his performances this season. His status as the top scorer in the Portuguese league with 23 goals has chiefly attracted attention.
However, his Champions League displays have further added to his stock across Europe.
Nunez has scored five goals in nine games in Europe. He sunk the winner against Ajax to send Benfica to the quarter-finals. Then, he netted against Liverpool on Tuesday to add a twist to that tie.
Reports have subsequently claimed that Arsenal and Man Utd are after the 22-year-old.
And taking to Twitter, Nunez revealed that he is in the process of changing his agent.
The striker wrote: “I want to clarify that I will not renew my contract with my representative Edgardo Lasalvia.”
Nunez currently liaises with Equipo TMA. The agency deals with a host of Uruguayan talents including Man Utd youngster Facundo Pellistri.
However, reporter Jacque Talbot has claimed that Jorge Mendes has struck an agreement with agent Euginio Lopez. The pair will now work with the striker from the UK.
And Talbot adds that Nunez is therefore heading to the Premier League this summer.
Mendes and his fellow associates have a track record of delivering big moves for their clients – including to the Premier League.
Indeed, Mendes has most recently helped Wolves capture a host of star talents.
Tottenham have also also had links with a move for Nunez as manager Antonio Conte looks to further reshape his squad.
Darwin Nunez could solve transfer problem
Man Utd are after a new long-term striker signings following a raft of ultimately quick fixes. Odion Ighalo signed in January 2020 and made a decent impression.
Cristiano Ronaldo has had a greater impact, but at 37 his time is limited – even if he keeps himself in tip-top condition.
As such, Nunez would present a top striker signing for the long-term.
