Crespo ‘didn’t join Real Madrid because of Ronaldo’

Former Serie A striker Hernan Crespo reveals he could have joined Real Madrid twice during his playing career.

The ex Argentinean striker is one of the most iconic Serie A players of all time. He played with Parma, Inter, Lazio, Milan and Genoa, scoring 153 goals in 340 games in Italy’s top flight.

He moved to Chelsea from Inter in August 2003, but returned to Italy one year later to join Milan.

The former striker spoke to Olé’s Twitch channel, revealing that he could have also played for Real Madrid.

“I was playing for Lazio [in 2002] and I was in talks with Real Madrid and Inter,” he said.

“It was all down to Ronaldo. Had he stayed at Inter, I would have moved to Madrid. In the end, he decided to join the Merengues, so I signed for the Nerazzurri.”

The La Liga giants made a new attempt a few years later. “I had six months left in my contract with Inter and Real Madrid called me in January. I could have joined them, but I decided to stay to win the Scudetto,” Crespo revealed.

The 46-year-old has won three Serie A titles in his career, all with Inter between 2006 and 2009. Crespo has won the Supercoppa Italiana with four different clubs: Parma, Lazio, Milan and Inter, and was part of the legendary Parma squad that won the UEFA Cup in 1998-99.
