Chelsea star Marcos Alonso goes outside the box when asked to pick between three next clubs

Marcos Alonso has reiterated his desire to play in La Liga, but that has not distracted from his commitment to keep playing for Chelsea.

Alonso is one of the longer-serving members of the Chelsea squad. The left-back has been at the club since 2016, when he signed from Fiorentina. There are 18 months left on his current contract at Stamford Bridge.

This season, he has gained more regular gametime in the absence of Ben Chilwell due to injury. But after the Englishman’s recovery, he will be a backup player once more.

Until Chelsea were prevented from doing transfer business, there were plenty of rumours about an exit for Alonso. As things stand, he cannot leave in the summer, but nor can Chelsea extend his contract beyond 2023.

Once a potential takeover is complete, they will be able to again. By that time, Alonso could be facing a dilemma over his future.

The 31-year-old has now revealed his intention is to play in La Liga at some point in what remains of his career. Although a Spain international, he only made one substitute appearance in the division for Real Madrid back in April 2010.

While on international duty, he has told AS: “I would love to play in La Liga.

“All my life I have wanted to play and be here in Spain, but the circumstances have been different and not everything has depended on me.

“At the moment I am focused on this season and what has to be, will be.”

Marcos Alonso won’t commit to next La Liga club

AS believe Marcos Alonso would be capable of being a target for La Liga’s three biggest clubs. He has family connections to Barcelona, Real and Atletico Madrid, which he has confirmed.

What’s more, all may be in the market for full-backs in the summer, if it is possible. Barcelona want competition for Jordi Alba, Real a successor to Marcelo, and Atletico were linked with Alonso in the winter.

But asked which of those he would choose now, he replied: “Chelsea right now. I have a contract for this and one more season.”

He has previously hinted he would be open to signing a new contract with Chelsea as well, even though that is not possible at present.
